Speaker Biography
Chua Siew-Ling, Director & Head of Emerging Payments, American Express
Siew Ling joined American Express International Inc’s Global Network Services business division in early 2010, based in Singapore, to spearhead their Emerging Payments business strategy, identify new revenue opportunities in alternate payment instruments and develop business alliances with strategic partners in various sectors like telco, banking and transport industries across Japan, Asia Pacific and Australia. She was instrumental in bringing together the partners for the launch of the first NFC mobile payments trial in Japan using Amex’s Expresspay contactless payment solution.
She worked in StarHub Ltd, Singapore’s 2nd largest MNO, from 2008 to 2009 where she was recruited to startup a new business unit to develop new Transactional and supporting Payment Services across StarHub’s business lines : Mobile, Cable TV and Broadband. She worked with overseas Telcos, Financial Institutions, Transport, Payment and Retail Service Providers to identify and develop new revenue generating services over these platforms, such as Remittance, Bill Payments, as well as NFC services on mobile phones.
Prior to StarHub, Siew Ling was General Manager of QB Pte Ltd, exclusive partner to EZ-Link (Singapore’s initial sole contactless transportation card operator) responsible for the proliferation of non-transit payment using the ez-link card at merchant locations across the country. During the 6 years with QB, she worked closely with financial organizations, government and regulatory bodies and merchants to introduce a new country-wide payment infrastructure using Ez-link’s contactless transport card as the preferred card for payment for small ticket electronic payments in Singapore.
Siew Ling spent 7 years with Visa International where she worked across different departments in Marketing and Product, Strategic Projects as well as Technology departments. Her last role was Director of Chip Implementation, EMV Migration, Asia Pacific. She also worked in DBS Bank with responsibility for the applications systems for key critical consumer banking systems, as well as Senior Systems Engineer for the Bank’s data communications network. She started her career with National Computer Systems Pte Ltd with stints in the IT depts of the Health and Home Affairs Ministries.
Siew Ling graduated with a Degree in Science, majors in Mathematics and Computer Science, from the National University of Singapore.
